I still get [QUAR] and/or [BULK] messages. How can I stop this?
Question:
You can stop getting [BULK] and [QUAR] messages by adjusting a few settings (and you do want to stop it). Once you do things and have the mail you don't want held at the server it makes your account easier to manage and easier to whitelist addresses (which makes for a better mail experience).
More information:In the staff menu on the district web page (http://southredford.net//) there is now a spot for Barracuda (http://ms16.tcnoc.com/). Barracuda is the filtering system we use for our mail, I know we still get junk we don't want but it deletes 50-65% of our mail before we even get it and will hold another 10-25% on the server if you follow these instructions.
| 1) Go to the Barracuda site to login (your usernane is your whole e-mail address). If you don't know your password click "create new password" and it will e-mail it to you. (if it gives you an error go to step two, othewise go to step 3) | |
| 2) IF it says "Error: Unable to Create Account" (it is likely that this will happen if you've been getting BULK or SPAM messages) click the 'Tangent' logo in the top left of the screen and then fill in the "Create User Account" form (you are now choosing your own password, but it will e-mail you a confirmation and possible change your password, so it may not be exactly what you picked). | ![]()
|
3) Once you have your password and you can login go to ![]()
and choose
.
4) Now set your Quarantine settings to YES and hit SAVE.
5) Then set it for DAILY notification and hit SAVE.
6) You're just waiting for it to start holding your messages. This is what you'll get daily.
7) While you're here, why not add some names to your whitelist. Go to PREFERENCES and choose WHITELIST/BLACKLIST. You can put in an external e-mail address (such as: updates@borders.com) and it allows everything from that address. I've probably got 100 in my whitelist and I never have to worry about it blocking mail from those people.
You should not get any more [QUAR] or [BULK] messages but you will start getting the BARRACUDA notifications (no more often than every 24 hours).
One you start adding addresses to your whitelist this will make managing your mail much easier (you'll do this when using the BARRACUDA NOTIFICATION messages).
IF you have two e-mail addresses (i.e. you have had a name change or you are an administrator with two addresses) you will need to do this for both addresses.
