Recalling a Message You Already Sent (in Outlook)

Question:

When and how should you recall a message.

More information:

Did you know you can recall a message? This means a false message or an incomplete message or an inaccurate message or even just an updated message. Maybe you were looking for something and you already got the response you needed, you can delete it so others don’t read it and also write you. Recalling generally only works within the district e-mail system. Go to your sent items are and choose the actions menu in Outlook 2000 (or the tools menu in Outlook 97/98) and choose recall this message. It seems to work best if you just choose delete... (instead of the other options).

It won’t recall it if it was already read but it will generally pull it out of the mailbox if it has not. It’s not perfect but it’s easy enough to recall to get it back from many of the users and save people time reading it and you spending time reading responses. This especially important if you are going to send out a correction, this way the people who haven’t checked their mail yet only see the most recent message and not an old one.

Warning: You cannot recall a message if checking mail from home via checkmail.southredford.net, you can recall it when you get back to your district computer but it may be too late then.
