Question:

Someone says I sent them a message but I didn’t.

Many viruses and spammers send mail by using people’s e-mail addresses as the return address in hopes that it looks more "real" and they will open it. So it it gets rejected or sent back your get the return message. There really isn’t anything you can do about this.
